Meet the Co-Hosts: Cats + Macaws Q&A

People come for the forest, hot tub, and the vibe… then they meet the animals and start asking the real questions. Here are the straight answers (with a little Calm Chaos personality).

Quick Orientation

What you’re walking into (in a good way)

Calm Chaos is a micro-wildlife refuge vibe. The animals aren’t staged. They’re not “amenities.” They’re residents with their own routines — and they add a layer of magic that guests remember.

If you’re expecting a sterile hotel experience, this isn’t that. If you want a story to tell, you’re in the right place.

Cats

They roam. They appear. They vanish. They inspect you through windows like tiny landlords.

Are the cats friendly?

Yes — on their terms. These are estate cats, not lap cats. If a cat approaches you, you’ve been approved. Don’t chase them. Let them choose the distance.

Will the cats come inside the guest house?

You might get a cameo at the window. They’re curious, not intrusive. We keep boundaries so guests can relax and the cats can do their own thing.

What should I do if a cat comes close?

Stay calm, let them sniff, and keep your hands low. Slow movements. Soft voice. If they lean in, you can offer a gentle scratch. If they step back, that’s a “no thanks.”

Do the cats roam at night?

Yes. They’re most active around dusk and early morning. If you’re having coffee on the deck, chances are you’ll see at least one of them doing a patrol lap.

Allergies — should I worry?

If you’re highly allergic, message us before booking. The cats are part of the property ecosystem and you’ll likely see them. We’ll help you decide if it’s the right fit.

Macaws (Parrots)

Big personalities. Very smart. Not “decor.” The birds have presence — and yes, they’ll remember you.

Are the macaws safe to be around?

Yes, with common sense. Macaws are intelligent and powerful birds. If you follow the house guidance and keep respectful distance, it’s a great experience.

Can I pet or hold a macaw?

Only if we explicitly invite it. Most guests won’t handle the birds — and that’s totally fine. The best way to enjoy them is to observe and let them choose interaction.

Will the macaws be loud?

Sometimes. They’re parrots. It’s part of the charm. They’re not screaming nonstop, but you may hear vocal moments — especially when they’re excited or communicating.

Can I feed the macaws?

Please don’t feed them unless we tell you exactly what and how. Their diet is controlled for health and safety.

Why are macaws part of Calm Chaos?

Because Calm Chaos isn’t a standard rental. It’s an experience rooted in nature, personality, and story. The macaws bring a “this is unreal” moment that guests remember for years.

Cats + Macaws Together

This is the part that sounds fake until you see it: the forest walks, the entourage, the calm coexistence.

Do the cats and macaws get along?

Surprisingly well. They coexist with a calm “we all live here” energy. The cats treat the birds like part of the landscape.

What’s the deal with the forest walks?

Daily walks happen along the forest path, and it’s not uncommon for cats to follow along — with Mango (our macaw) leading like a tiny feathered tour guide. It’s one of those Calm Chaos moments you can’t plan.

Will I see this during my stay?

Maybe. Nothing is staged. The animals are living their routines. But guests often end up with at least one “are you seeing this?” moment.

Guest Etiquette (aka: How to have the best animal moments)

Do This
  • Move slowly and let animals approach you
  • Keep doors closed so indoor spaces stay guest-friendly
  • Enjoy the cameos — especially the window inspections
  • Ask before feeding any animal (seriously)
Don’t Do This
  • Don’t chase cats for photos or attention
  • Don’t try to touch or hold a macaw unless invited
  • Don’t leave food outside unattended
  • Don’t assume “cute” means “handleable” — respect the animals
Bottom line: Calm, respectful energy gets the best interactions. The animals pick up on vibe fast — and they’ll reward the good one.
